Different styles of music videos

There are so many different ways of making music videos which allow a lot of creativity and give teh directors a chance to explore. the different styles of music videos are:

Performance based
In this style the music videos mainly focus on the artist or the band who are plainly performing in a crowd or elsewhere.

Narrative based
As the name suggests this kind of music video style has a story-line to it. There are two types of story-line which is 'Linear' and 'Fragmented'. Linear story line means that the events in the music video or in the story happen in a chronological order. Fragmented story line means that the video doesn't follow a story-line but depicts lyrics of the song

Mixture 

It is a combination of performance based music video style and narrative music video style. The artist is featured in these kind of music videos with the acting as the B-Roll. 

Animated 

As the suggests, animated music videos have an animated film or cartoons dancing or acting in the background  as the soundtrack plays along. 

Impressionist

An impressionist music video is a music which rather than focusing on small details of the picture, it instead focuses on the atmosphere and conveying the moods and emotions aroused by subject. 

Concept based 

Concept based music video are based on a specific concept or a theme. The concept can be magic, supernatural, historical, religious, scientific or any other idea. 

Production Interpretative 

An interpretive music video is a video in which lyrics directly reflect what is happening on screen. If a lyrics is said in the song, it will usually be acted out on screen. 

Surreal 

Dreamlike state seeking to emulate the unconscious mind. Weird and unexpected images making them beyond imagination. 

Pastiche 

Copies a style from a period of time. It could imitate a certain video, use similar features and motifs. 

Parody 

An imitation of style another artist often exaggerated or mocking. 

Intertexuality 

References used from some other media product. 

Allusion 

An allusion is an indirect references to a person, place thing or idea of historical, cultural and literary significance.
