Andrew Goodwin's Theory (Part 1)

Andrew Goodwin had studied music video and had concluded that there were 5 key features to observe while making a music video. Here are the 5 features-
  1. Thought through beat (seeing what they mean or represent in your head)
The first step of this process is to analyse the music structure understanding the chorus and versus

Then the second step (main voice of the song), the voice of the artist would be very unique compared to other and will give the person a form of identification that can be related to the star image or the singer.

The third step would be the story of an artist which he/she is trying to tell within the song. It establishes the artist as a story teller. The music video can aid this by showing us the video through the vocals of the song.

      2.  Relations between the music and visuals

ILLUSTRATE
The music videos use certain images and shots to illustrate/explain the meaning of lyrics to their song and the genre.

CONTRADICT
This means to go completely against the lyrics of the song where the images don't correlate in any way.

AMPLIFY
Repeatability- This is when the images and the camera shots are manipulated and shown repeatedly through out the music video and is drummed into our vision.

Andrew believed that a music video can promote a song by though the way it analsis the lyrics. This is shown in many music videos when a character does exactly what the song says.
Example is when the song lyrics are jump! jump! jump! And in the music vidoe there are characters/actors actually jumping.
